Honouring the life of Gavin Garden

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of long time player, administrator and club stalwart Gavin Garden.

Gavin had been associated with the club since the mid 60’s when he played with his older brother Howard and younger brother Atholl. Whilst still at school he played for the 2nd XI and from there, there was rarely a weekend he wasn’t representing the FP’s through cricket and Rugby.

Gavin was not only a fiery competitor but a good player, captaining two 2 Counties Cup winning sides. A medium pacer who regularly racked up the wickets including season 1981 where he took 68 across the season. Could also hold a bat too. He contributed greatly to the overall enjoyment of playing for not only a competitive cricket team but also enhancing the atmosphere in a team that liked to socialize afterwards.

Following his playing days, Gavin would hold several committee roles on several committees! Whether that be the FP clubs, athletic union, SPCU, SCU, SRU. You name a committee, Gavin has served on that committee. Also a stalwart of the FP rugby club, he played a massive part in their successes.

His tireless work for our cricket club is a massive reason why the club still thrives today. If he wasn’t secretary he was treasurer, if he wasn’t treasurer he was secretary, and a lot of the time he was both, amongst other roles.

Latterly as well as doing the role of treasurer, secretary and a lot of the time both, together with his good friend Donald they took on the role of maintenance team for the ground and equipment, spending many hours keeping Dalnacraig and the equipment going and planning ahead for the upkeep of the ground.

Gavin was a true legend of the club in a variety of ways and the club will be looking at ways to continue his legacy at Dalnacraig.

A big thank you to Gavin for his years of service and determination to keep our club running, he will be dearly missed.

Our thoughts are with Jacqui and the Garden Family.

Rest in peace Gavin.
